How to connect to our lab.

How is this lab actually work? The console port of cisco devices are actually connected to our Terminal Server and when you sign up to a lab sesion, we will create you a login detail on our Terminal Server. By using this login detail you will be able to telnet our Terminal Server with the assigned port number and you will be passed through directly to a particular Cisco console port as seen on image below with blue lines.

This connection is hardly noticable, you will feel this like a transparent connection, close to having your own cisco devices on your desk and connect them directly with console cables as pictured with green lines. You can even use the Ctrl-Break command and actually powering the cisco devices on and off.

After your booking has been paid and confirmed, you will receive an email confirmation for your schedule, FQDN, ports and password to log in. Simply telnet to the router you wish to connect by using the FQDN name and port or use a telnet client such as putty to ease your access:

Type in the hostname and port number in to the appropriate fields, write down the session name: eg: Router 1, Router 2, etc and click save. Do this for all the routers and switches of particular lab you hired. Open separate window for each device you wish to connect by double-clicking the session you have saved. This way, you will save time when changing between each connected devices.

Telnet Client

To gain access to our router lab, you will need a telnet client. There are many telnet client software to choose from, some of them are free but some others need to buy a license.

From our experience, we can suggest several of the best telnet client software which can be used to access the lab.

PuTTY

Putty has long track of good reputation because of its reliability and ease of use as a telnet client. It is widely used by system administrator either unix or windows. Putty is easy to be found on the internet just by simple search and it is free.

Token 2

Another good and free telnet client. It is developed by Korean developer and has been known for its simplicity and stability. Now there are two version of Token 2: Token 2 (free edition) and Token 2 Plus (licensed). In my opinion, Token 2 is easier to navigate and use compare to Putty.
